Kehidupan awal
Stiller dilahirkan di New York City. Ayahnya, Jerry Stiller, adalah orang Yahudi, sedangkan ibunya Anne Meara berlatar
belakang Katolik Irlandia. Meara berpindah agama menjadi Yahudi setelah
menikah dengan Jerry Stiller (walau begitu mereka merayakan Hanukkah
dan Natal). Adiknya, aktris Amy Stiller, sering ikut serta bermain film,
